Alex was born and raised in Reno Nv, By the age of 4 he was already out in the
marshes and fields with his grandfather and Dad waterfowl hunting. At that age he was
mainly a spectator and just being properly introduced to the outdoors along with
spending quality time with family.
Their hunting adventures as the years progressed water fowling would take
them from local marshes and rivers close to home around the Reno and Carson Valley
areas to some excursions on Honey Lake to as far away as Tule and Goose Lake on
the Oregon borders, up into Central Oregon’s Malheur refuge as well driving to the far
reaches of Eastern Nev to pursue waterfowl.
Alex recalls shooting his 1 duck at the age of 6 with assistance from his father as
one of his youngest memories well as fond memories of being covered in white sheets
hunting snow geese and swans out in the alkali flats from Fernley clear out to Elko.
Sadly, Alex lost both his grandfather and dad by the time he turned 8 yrs old, but
his passion for water fowling was instilled in him and through family friends mentoring
him his passion for the outdoors continued with hunting locally as well as frequent trips
out to the Stillwater refuges in Fallon well into his teen years. When not hunting Alex
would be at local parks watching and learning bird behaviors as well as learning all he
could about waterfowl and other shore birds.
In high school Alex was known to have his decoys packed up and ready to go
and, on some occasions, may have even missed a little school here and there to go
hunting with friends. Also, during this time, he and his friends would have to travel even
farther to pursue hunting as their local farms and such were being sold for development.
They didn’t allow urban growth to stop their passion for water fowling.
By the age of 23 Alex realized that the hustle and bustle of Reno was becoming
too much and needing change, he moved to Eastern Oregon to a small town of
Richland after spending numerous summer vacations there cat and crappie fishing.
Waterfowl was abundant in this area in the fall and winter as well and he learned the
meaning of big water hunting while pursuing birds along the Snake River and flats of
Brownlee reservoir.
After a couple years of living in Richland he decided again that change was
needed in his life and moved to Central Oregon. This is where he has called home for
the last 24 years and has continued duck and goose hunting and established Predawn
Adventures back in 2013 to not only give back but also teach anyone willing to learn this
passion and continue introducing people to the joys of pursuing waterfowl. So join him
in his 40 plus years of water fowling to give you the best experience Central Oregon
has to offer!!
